Irmin Schmidt & Kumo

NEW RELEASE
Irmin Schmidt

October 2009 Irmin Schmidt releases Filmmusik Anthology Vol 4&5 on Mute / Spoon Records Founder of the legendary German rock group CAN, Irmin Schmidt has been writing music for films for over 40 years, and as a trained pianist, composer and conductor, has roots in classical music, jazz, and of course in rock music.

This double CD release, Filmmusik Anthology Vol 4&5, follows 1994's Anthology Soundtracks 1978 -1993 and contains a selection of Schmidt's works over the last 10 years for 20 different films for both the big screen and television. The anthology includes tracks from the critically acclaimed German TV series Bloch and Tatort and the award winning film Schneeland.

These pieces of music are a fascinating insight into the art of film score music from a veteran who has honed his craft masterfully over the years as well as being a wonderful album to just sit, relax and enjoy.

Filmmusik Anthology Vol. 4&5 also includes eight tracks from the original score of the latest Wim Wenders film, Palermo Shooting, which premiered in the Official Selection of the Cannes film festival 2008. The original film score is available digitally on Mute.

Irmin Schmidt has been commissioned by the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele (Ludwigsburg Castle Festival) to present an evening of orchestrations of his work for film in summer 2010. A selection of pieces (some included on the album Filmmusik Anthology Vol 4&5) will be transcribed for orchestra and the concert will be conducted by the composer himself. This exclusive event is being organised in co-operation with the Baden-Würtemburg Film Academy. In addition Irmin Schmidt will be holding a series of workshops at the prestigious film school.

9th of NOVEMBER 2007

The original Can Studio, The Inner Space Studio in Cologne, has been completely dismantled (including the hundreds of mattresses on the walls!!!) and rebuild in the Rock and Pop Museum in Gronau, Germany.

After the Band split, René Tinner, Can's sound engineer, took over the studio and produced here many of the hits of the 80ies and 90ies with German bands like Trio, Maruis Müller-Westernhagen, Joachim Witt, Whirlpool Productions and many others.

The Opening Ceremony will be on the 9th of November. The press conference is at 14:00h, followed by a ceremony at which all living members of Can will be present. A great opportunity to meet and greet Irmin, Holger and Jaki and learn more about the secrets of this truly unique space. The studio will continue to function as a recording studio for young bands inside the walls of the museum.

Can - I Want More 30th Anniversary Single Release, 29th May 2006
Numbered Limited Edition

Can release I Want More, their classic hit from 1976.

Thirty years after its original release (and their appearance on Top Of The Pops with Noel Edmunds!), the single will be available as a 7" picture disc and 12" orange vinyl - both will be strictly limited and numbered - as well as digital download formats.

I Want More is taken from the classic Flow Motion album which forms part of the final series of re-mastered studio albums that also includes Rite Time, Saw Delight, Can and Delay 1968 on The Grey Area of Mute/Spoon also on 29th May 2006.

This is the third and final phase of remastered studio albums released by Mute as Holger Czukay, Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore set about recovering the original master tapes and restoring the sound to how it originally was on the Vinyl releases and how they were always intended to sound.

These releases all feature new sleeve notes and rarely seen photography from the personal Can archive, as well as original artwork from long deleted editions.

Irmin's page
- The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has commissioned Irmin Schmidt to write the score for a ballet: "Die Jüdin Von Toledo" - Scenario and Choreography by Youri Vamos. The premiere is scheduled for 2007

- February 2006. Irmin Schmidt & Kumo produced Mito Ichikawa's solo album. Mito is the bass player in Japanese band CLAMMBON. One of the tracks from the album is currently being used in the TV advertising campaign for the Japanese fashion mega store PARCO.

The album is to be released shortly.

- 7.12.05 re-release of CAN DVD, but this time WITHOUT the audio CD. The retail price will be reduced accordingly. (catalog number: LSPOONDVD47)

CAN — remastered!!!

Spoon Records, in collaboration with Warner Music (for Germany/ Austria/ Switzerland) and Mute/ EMI Records London (for the rest of the world, excluding Japan), is releasing remastered versions of the classic CAN albums. Included are exclusive unseen photos from the time and new sleeve notes.

The albums were all remastered from the original master tapes and were overseen and attended by Holger Czukay, Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore, so that they finally sound on CD how they were always intended to sound. These releases follow the recent success of the DVD release, CAN DVD, which marked the 35th anniversary of the founding of the group.

Spoon Records has signed an agreement with P-Vine Records for a domestic release in Japan. P-Vine will release all the remastered albums with a faithful reproduction of the original vinyl cover as paper sleeve. The first 8 albums were released in july 2005, the rest will follow in blocs.
