Recently, one of our number reported getting hold of a previously 'unheard of' CD called "Canobits", which contains definite Can recordings. Not only are we all (as the greatest of Can fans) desperate to get our own copies of this 'rare' CD, but we're all very intrigued as to the origin of these recordings. I have read (Can Box book?, etc) that Holger often used to keep the tape running in the studio after everyone thought he'd stopped recording. The quality of most of the tracks (I am told) is pretty reasonable (one live - soundboard? - one). Perhaps (at least some of) the tracks came from Holger's studio recordings? I believe that Hildegard Schmitt (whose e-mail address I can no longer locate) is interested in 'collecting' good bootlegs for a possible future 'previously unreleased material' CD, which all us fans would love to buy ... perhaps she might like to know about this one? What happened between 1968 and 1973 remains the purplest of purple patches. The music is greater than the sum of its parts, grows in its appeal and changes with each acquaintance. Comparisons between Can and anything else are redundant : their art and discipline were unique. More than anything, Can make fine companions and perfect sense in a world that should embrace them as soon as possible. That's all. The site looks good. I don't think the event is complete, there's a fade at the end ? Will Spoon ever release a full version of this great head-blowing concert ? It would be great. Maybe Can have a better recording of this stuff, the sound here is good but I think it could be better.
